College Street paving project to begin this month

The City’s Capital Improvement and Bond Projects are bringing better streets to Asheville through multiple repaving projects. These paving projects will give us better roads to travel on but the construction period itself can pose traffic challenges.

That’s why we want to let everyone know about the College Street paving project slated to begin the third week of September. This is a Capital Improvement Project that will entail repaving a short stretch on a major travel thoroughfare, from Spruce Street to Biltmore Avenue. South Market from College Street to Court Plaza will also be resurfaced at this time.

Traffic will be maintained but there will be lane closures, so you may want to reroute during the paving construction period, which is expected to last two to three weeks, between milling down the streets and then repaving.

Also note that businesses will remain open during this repaving project.

Thank you for your patience while the City makes this road improvement!

Looking ahead a bit, following completion of this project the Streets Division will oversee the milling and paving of West Chestnut Street. This project should take three to four weeks and will include installation of 14 ADA sidewalk ramps.

Please note: All paving is weather dependent! If a tropical storm comes through Asheville, it can delay the paving schedule.
