Downtown Asheville street to be closed for repair Friday through Monday morning

Repairs to a street that intersects Pack Square Park will require a road closure this weekend. From Friday through Monday morning (March 22-25), the City’s Streets Division will close South Spruce Street from Marjorie Street to College Street.

Marjorie and College streets on both ends will remain open. The portion of South Spruce Street between them will be closed from 8:30 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Monday.

“This is a heavy-use area,” said City Streets Division Manager Chad Bandy. “Besides other traffic, Asheville Fire Department trucks and ART buses travel this stretch.”

This portion of the street is made of exposed aggregate concrete slabs, as part of the Pack Square Park redesign, completed in 2010. The Streets Division will replace 9 concrete sections, broken and worn down by use.

The closure will not impact access to the Asheville Police and Fire departments. Pack’s Tavern will remain open during its usual hours.

ART bus routes E1 and E2 will detour onto South Market Street, but there will be no impact to stops.

The majority of the work will be performed on Friday and then the street section will remain closed throughout the weekend so that the concrete can cure.

Please be aware of this weekend street closure, designed for minimal disruption to all.
