Riverside Drive, some parks re-open, following flooding

Following 5 inches of relentless rain Friday, more than a dozen Asheville streets were closed over the weekend, including several in Biltmore Village.

On a holiday weekend, Asheville Public Works, Parks and Fire Department crews rolled up their sleeves and went to work, rescuing stranded motorists, barricading roads and cleaning roads once waters receded, following flooding from the Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers. They worked all weekend.

One by one, they got most roads re-opened. But a landslide on Town Mountain damaged two roads that remain closed. These roads remain closed:

Inglewood Road at Elk Mountain Scenic Highway

Old Toll Road on Town Mountain

Blue Brier Road, also on Town Mountain

Re-opened

River-adjacent parks, post-flood

Carrier Park is open, but the only available parking is the lot nearest the ballfield.

Amboy Riverfront Park is open, but the parking lot remains closed. The closed parking lots still have standing floodwater, but we hope to reopen them tomorrow.

French Broad River Park is open, but still needs some maintenance. Muddy, wet conditions with silt and dirt deposits still exist in some areas, so please watch your step.

Azalea Park, including the John B. Lewis Soccer Complex, remains closed.

Charlie Bullman Park is also closed.
