Reed Creek Greenway service day happens in partnership with Blue Ridge Arborist Association

The City of Asheville and the Blue Ridge Arborist Association have been working steadily for some time to be able to partner on much needed tree maintenance projects on City of Asheville property.  On October 22the partnership kicked off with a service day on Reed Creek Greenway.

The Blue Ridge Arborist Association is composed of trained arborists who are not only knowledgeable and qualified, but passionate about taking good care of the community’s trees. City Arborist Mark Foster was on-site working directly with them and overseeing the tree care operations.

Three trees were to be removed during the service day – two to enhance public safety and one to improve the health of the surrounding trees. The crews were also to prune selective branches to maintain tree health and mulching several younger trees to improve soil conditions and protect the trees.

Saturday’s work was done between Ocala Street and Catawba Street, and required a limited number of 10-15 minute closures of the greenway between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2 PM. Every effort was made to minimize any delays.
