Snow recovery updates: Trash collection, bus service, streets and parking garages

The City of Asheville’s Sanitation Division has cancelled trash and recycling collection today due to snow-covered and icy roads.

Here is the revised trash and recycling collection for this week:

  • Tuesday collect on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday collect on Wednesday.
  • Thursday collect on Thursday.
  • Monday collect on Friday. Normally there is no Friday collection. All routes are serviced Monday through Thursday.

Brush collection has been cancelled for the week of Jan. 25. Collection will occur on the next regular collection week.

ART bus service

Asheville Redefines Transit (ART) bus service resumed at 10 a.m. today, though some stops are not being served due to icy conditions. For up-to-date details, visit ART’s Service Alerts page.

Garages to resume normal operations

The City expects to resume regular operations in its parking garages Tuesday, with the exception of Wall Street and Rankin Avenue Garages which will probably still have snow on their tops.

Parking Services will close entry gates at 8 a.m. At that time anyone entering the lot will need to pull a ticket. Anyone leaving the garages after 10 a.m. Tuesday will be expected to pay.

Parking enforcement and meter collection will resume where it is safe.

Some of the City’s off-street lots still have snow cover on them but that should melt away quickly.

Snow removal continues on streets

The City’s Street Services division continues to work 24-hour shifts to clear our roads of snow and ice, according to Street Services Manager Chad Bandy. Residents within the City limits are encouraged to call if they see large patches ice or snow that need treatment by the City, 828-259-5852 or 828-251-1122. Bear in mind that this number applies only to streets maintained by the City of Asheville.

Due to the volume of this snow event, crews had to focus on main routes most needed for the safety of the community so our emergency responders can get through. They have now turned more of their attention to neighborhood streets.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on the roads.
